CD REVIEW: Eidolon by New Brunswick band Zaum

Eidolon by Zaum
Released October 2016
Moncton, New Brunswick

Based in New Brunswick, Canada – Zaum is a dark passage into the unspoken realization of the old world; a monolithic doomy mantra-based meditative experience forged by bass and drums interwoven with sitar, woodwind, string and synth textures. It is intended for the listener to experience a tranquil resonance, whereby the astral and physical planes coexist and are understood from a natural perspective.

Their debut album Oracles, released in June 2014, garnered widespread critical acclaim, primarily throughout Europe, and was eventually nominated for ECMA Award for Best Loud Recording . Zaum was also nominated for and won Music New Brunswick load recording of the year.In their one and a half years as an active touring band, Zaum have amassed more than a hundred live shows (mainly international) including support stints for Voivod, Pentagram, and Cauldron.

Chapter II in the existence of Zaum is an illuminated revelation born through the mists of time, supplemented by lush and organic soundscapes, complemented by vibrant artwork. Artistry to summon into mind another lost world far from the Middle Eastern deserts of debut album Oracles. A doorway to reconnect with an ancient past. This is Eidolon: groundbreaking, challenging and highly imaginative.

Zaum‘s new cd release, Eidolon, consists of two tracks Influence of the Magi and The enlightenment. Both tracks are over twenty minutes long. Zaum consists of band members Kyle McDonald- Bass, lyrics, songwriting, Synth, and Vocals. Chris Lewis- Drums, Percussion.

I found this CD addictive, hypnotizing, mesmerizing. A great soundtrack to listen to and just let the songs take you to places your mind has never been. I know Kyle And Chris personally and you owe it to yourself to catch their show live. Their on stage performance combined with their music is a transcendental metal experience . This is what makes them a number one act overseas. They are in constant demand there and have just returned from a European tour .
