DVD Review: RUSH: Time Stands Still

Review by Bobby R Rock

I admit that when I first saw the cover of this DVD, released a few months ago in November 2016, I jumped to the conclusion that this was another release about Rush‘s history, much like Beyond A Lighted Stage was back in 2010. Upon further review this is indeed a celebration of the legacy of the band but also one that celebrates their fans as well as what is most likely their last tour ever.

The DVD starts with a snapshot of early tours and how they travelled and what it meant to the band and crew. The story moves nicely into following the band throughout the tour due to the feeling that this may very well be the bands last go on the road.

A very unexpected highlight for me was when the band talked about a special show in Toronto on this tour when they felt like everything clicked. For a band 40+ years in, it was a joy to see how excited they were about that kind of show.

As much as this release was about the band, it was just as much about their fans and what Rush has meant to them over the years. Talking with fans that have massive Rush collections to others that have seen the band 100+ times, it follows these “characters” through to the last show on the tour complete with their reactions as well as the bands thoughts and feelings.

The DVD is a nice fit in my collection of Rush releases and was put together very well. Even if Rush isn’t your cup of tea and you’re just a fan of music, this is a moving and entertaining watch.
