(Moncton, N.B) – On April 11th Hedley performed at the Moncton Coliseum. The lights go down and appearing on two giant screens is “The Hedleys” – a satirical opening sequence to their show with a Full House sitcom sort of feel. The screen goes blank as the lights rise and Jacob, Tommy, Dave and Chis emerge into the spotlights. Hedley is here.

Hedley opens (appropriately so) with Hello, the highly energetic title track from their newest released album as well as namesake for their current tour. The band followed with equally energetic songs, establishing an irrefutable stage presence that would last throughout the entire show. The streams of colour light, which shone across the audience, only served to amplify the lively atmosphere, encouraging the crowd’s enthusiasm and reflecting the band’s eccentricity. In spite of the party atmosphere, however, the band seemed to exude an admirable sense of humility as well as genuine gratefulness towards Moncton and their fans.

Overall, the night was filled with countless awesome moments. Here are just a few of my favorites:

1. The band performed a few fun covers of Justin Bieber’s Sorry and Bruno Mars/Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk.

2. All four members stood center-stage and played an acoustic version of Gunnin as requested by a little girl earlier in the day.

3. The artistry of the spotlights switching from pink to red during piano renditions of For The Nights I Can’t Remember and Perfect really help capture a calmer tone.

4. Several surprises from Jacob, the band’s frontman, served to entertain the fans (myself included). He shot t-shirts into crowd while performing Cha-Ching and made a surprise visit in the crowd to sing Trip.

5. Finally, the band’s creativity and incredible talent when they mixed a bit of the song Unchained Melody into their song Old School.

Though the concert itself was remarkable, Hedley also had some amazing opening acts such as Francesco Yates (Better To Be Loved and Call) and Juno-winner Carly Rae Jepsen (Call Me Maybe, I Really Like You and Run Away With Me).
