I’m always up for checking out new bands. One such band I had been wanting to see is an up-and-coming band based out of Toronto, Ontario. They call themselves Kaleidoscope Horse.

Kaleidoscope Horse is a theatrical psych rock band who’s roots began just over three years ago with vocalist Desiree Das Gupta and guitarist/vocalist Samantha (Sam) Maloney. The band is rounded out with guitarist Sean McDonnell, bassist Kyle McDonnell and drummer Taylor Barber.

I finally got to see them on March 3 when the band played as part of a concert series currently being held at the the C5 Lounge located on the fifth floor of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). Since February 10, the lounge has been hosting a series of concerts in partnership with Women In Music Canada. Normally the C5 Lounge isn’t open to the public but for this concert series guests have been able to enjoy great music with a spectacular view of the Toronto skyline.

All shows for this Friday Night Live series, presented by Night Owl Festival, has been featuring indie bands with female vocalists. On this particular night Kaleidoscope Horse started the night off and was followed by Hot Garbage and Luna Li.

Earlier in the day the band’s single, Idious Carrie, made it’s debut on Canadian radio when it was featured on CIUT 89.5 FM. Kaleidoscope Horse is a band to watch out for. You can catch them March 29 at the Horseshoe Tavern as part of Indie88 Presents: Billy Moon, Language Arts, LOLAA + Kaleidoscope Horse.

More with Kaleidoscope Horse coming soon!

ROM Winter Fridays comes to an end March 17.
