Kym Simon is a feisty Alberta firebrand with a personality as vast as the prairies and musical potential as high as the Rocky Mountains.

All of this is brought to bear on her new single, Myself to Blame, the third song released from her scintillating and highly entertaining EP Mirror, released earlier this year.

Kym demonstrates her ample playful side on Myself to Blame: “The song is really a tongue-in-cheek look at the “walk of shame”, but from a woman’s point of view,” Kym explained. “We had a lot of fun writing about what it would be like to have this happen and not always have it end up being a bad thing in the end. It leaves you wondering what is going to happen if she stays…the woman in the song may have just met the love of her life!”

Mirror follows on the heels of If You Stole My Heart, released in 2000, and 2007’s Priority, both of which were recorded in Nashville. For this latest release, Kym chose to work closer to home, laying down tracks at Calgary’s MCC Recording Studios under the watchful eye of veteran producer Johnny Gasparic (Gord Bamford, George Canyon, Clayton Bellamy).

When you speak to Kym, hear her sing live, or listen to the energy she brings to her music on recordings, it’s hard to believe that this vivacious and confident stage performer started off as a music loving, but painfully shy young gal from Stettler, Alberta. She surrounded herself with song, but never thought it would become a vocation.

“My grandparents were in a local dance band that played at all the community halls and events in the area; and, my parents also played in a band. Every family get-together meant sing-alongs where everyone had to get up and do their own little number. So, I was surrounded by music and always encouraged to play and sing,” she said, adding that her earliest musical influences were Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, and Martina McBride — all vocalists known for their passion, power, and memorable performances.

Myself to Blame, is emblematic of Kym’s growing strength and self-confidence as an artist, and is helping to ensure her place in the world of Canadian country music is gaining momentum. As she releases more songs, performs more shows, and dazzles more fans with her easy-going charm, spectacular showmanship, and dynamite voice, she will continue to share her remarkable musical gift from coast to coast — and beyond.
