A summer staple for the Burlington area is The Sound of Music Festival. Ever year around Fathers Day the Spencer Smith Park transforms into the biggest festival within the region. This mostly free event (with the exception of the summer kick off show) is organized by mostly volunteers. A huge team of nearly 200 committee members, plus day-of volunteers make this event a success year after year. Sponsors such as Tim Hortons, TD, OLG, and many more make this free event possible with funding.

This park, situated on the beautiful waterfront is sprawling with food vendors, cool down areas, carnival rides, foam parties and 4 stages throughout.

Although parking is a bit of an issue for this festival, the organizers did a fantastic job with shuttle buses from the Burlington Go station. There was ample parking and the frequency of the buses where really great. There was little to no wait time each time to and from the event.

Like any other outdoor event, you are at the mercy of mother nature. This year, she behaved all the way through up until the last day, where Chalk Circle was only able to make it part way through their set before the skies unleashed it’s wet furry. Thunderstorm watches forced the organizers to cancel the closing act Finger Eleven. The skies opened up and the boys from Finger Eleven came out to the crowd for a meet and greet. These guys are such a class act. They posted on their Facebook page that they will be doing a show soon to make up for the cancellation.

A special Thank You goes out to the organizers for accreditation.
