What comes to mind when you see these prenominal artist’s names: John Corabi (Mötley Crüe, The Scream), Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio), Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake), Brian Tichy (Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol), David Lowy (Red Phoenix, Mink) … Impressive! The Dead Daisies ended their tour to a sold out crowd at the iconic Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California on Thursday, September 15, supporting their recent album release Make Some Noise.

I arrive early to get checked in and being there is no photo pit, pick my spot to cover this show, as I was walking down from the parking lot, Corabi, Aldrich, Mendoza, Tichy and the only original founding member Lowy come walking out of the Whisky A Go Go to street side on the Sunset Strip, doing a photo op under the marquee. Brought a smile to my face taking a moment to watch, it was evident they were ready to blow the roof off!

As the lights go down and the intro of Zep/Sabbath starts playing. One by one the members start appearing onstage, the stage lights come up, Corabi starts off addressing the packed crowd, “L.A., let’s do this shit!” opening up with Midnight Moses off their Revolución album (Everything I touch is coming up roses) set the tone of the evening. Followed by Evil and rounded out by Make Some Noise, plus the first of the nine songs off the recent release included in the set. It got hot really quick!!

John Corabi’s voice is amazing. With a magnetic personality and nice smile he does a great job engaging the audience, asking how many of them bought the latest release Make Some Noise. As the crowd cheers, Corabi says, “Thanks, you help feed my dog!!” (laughs). Bassist Marco Mendoza, with his suave moves, a great showman, also does his part engaging the audience at times. Doug Aldrich, guitar virtuoso brought a nice arsenal, including my favorite the Gibson Les Paul and rhythm guitarist David Lowy ties them all together nicely, with Join Together (The Who Cover) off their Make Some Noise album. Corabi then picks up the acoustic guitar for Lock ˋnˊ Loaded off their 2013 self-titled album The Dead Daisies.

There are drummers, then there are powerhouse drummers! Brian Tichy is the latter, as he shows what he’s made of during his hard hitting drum solo that vibrated the walls. As the band rejoins the stage for Fortunate Son (Creedence Clearwater Revival cover) off their Make Some Noise album. Closing out the set with Helter Skelter (Beatles cover) off their 2014 EP Face I Love.

Lights dim one last time as Corabi, Aldrich, Mendoza, Lowy and Tichy return to the stage for the encore of Mexico from ˋRevolución, We All Fall Down, Make Some Noise, and ending with Hush (Joe South cover).

The Dead Daisies blew the roof off. If you don’t know who The Dead Daisies are, I suggest you look them up, buy their latest album Make Some Noise and catch them out on tour. They have great musicianship and they have a lot of fun on stage. You won’t be disappointed!
