Mikey Manville is the frontman for rock power trio The Manvils. As the lead vocalist, guitarist, and composer he established himself as one of Vancouver’s most captivating live performers before returning to his hometown of Toronto – band in tow. Here they began work on their third full-length album, Reaction Arrow, which is due out in March 2018. But there is also Mikey Manville the solo artist. This introspective side of Manville is showcased on his forthcoming solo record, Nocturne Only, slate for release digitally on November 24, 2017. The first single/video, Bloodthirsty, will be released on October 31, 2017. In addition, a limited run of 45 RPM, 180g vinyl of Nocturne Only will be released on October 31 via Fab Distribution.
Recording in Chicago at Akred’s Clodock Recording Parlour, and completed in an 1870’s hunting lodge-converted studio in Redwood City, California with producer John Akred, Manville’s tunes hold compelling stories mixed with care. The helping hands of drummer Scott Moore (Mezodigm), Ryan Dahle (Mounties/Limblifter), Megan Bradfield (Limblifter), and Pat Steward (Odds/Bryan Adams) have helped shape the melody driven sonic landscape of Nocturne Only.
In the music video for Bloodthirsty, Mikey Manville plays both himself, a beat up looking singer songwriter, and the devil who kidnaps him for entertainment. The psych tinged folk ballad is straight out of the Beatles handbook, with haunting melodies inspiring the video treatment. Shot on location in Northern Ontario in a recently excavated quarry and deserted cabin in the woods, filmmaker Brett Pedersen pays tribute to film noir and campy 70s horror. Manville and crew filmed over 2 days and 2 nights in Temagami with weather on their side. Much like the song Bloodthirsty, the video holds true to the theme of good and evil and explores the struggle with the inherent evil in all of us.
Mikey Manville plays his video and vinyl release show at the Cadillac Lounge in Toronto on October 31. Doors 8pm/Show 9pm.SHARE THIS POST:
