(Toronto, ON) – The Trans-Siberian Orchestra made their usual holiday stop in Toronto on Dec 23rd, at the Air Canada Center to a packed house. This symphony on steroids, boasts the talents of 10 singers, 2 guitarists, 2 keyboardists, a bass player, drummer and a violinist. They also added the Toronto Symphony Orchestra to their line up for this portion of their tour. What specifically appealed to my senses where the heavier guitars mixed with the electric violin.
The shows backdrop consisted of an impressive array of pyrotechnics, an incredible light and laser show, actual wet snow, as well as rising rigs that would transport members over the crowd. Not to mention the wall to wall screens that would display building backdrops, fire, winter wonderlands and Christmas sceneries.
The first half of the show had the TSO perform holidays songs with a backdrop showing clips from the movie Ghost of Christmas Eve, which is a stage adaptation of the band’s 1999 made-for-TV movie of the same name.
Although I really enjoyed the entire show, one particular highlight of the evening was when Lisa Lavie from Montreal sang the song Music Box Blues. She emanated so much soul and passion that it blew me away. Albeit all talented in their own ways, she was a stand out for me.
I can understand why a lot of people make seeing this incredible production a yearly tradition. I know I will certainly see it again next year.
