After releasing his third album três! earlier this year—which Spill Magazine described as “blending blues rock grit with Americana soul”—Toronto’s Nelson Sobral is back with a new single, “Built To Last,” a stirring roots-rock anthem about resilience, connection, and the bonds that endure.
With its laidback groove, heartfelt harmonies from Tay Guitard, and the warm yet gritty production of Mattie Leon, the track delivers both power and intimacy. Mastered by Reuben Ghose at Mojito Mastering, “Built To Last” is an unshakable statement that Sobral’s music, like the love it celebrates, is here to stay.

“I wrote ‘Built To Last’ thinking about the rare connections that stand the test of time,” Nelson says. “It came together quickly, almost like it was waiting for me to catch up. I recorded it myself, and when Mattie mixed and produced it—with Tay’s harmonies lifting everything—it felt like the exact way it was meant to sound: warm, real, and lived-in.”
Lyrically, “Built To Last” speaks to relationships and moments that weather time and trial, urging listeners to hold tight to what matters. Musically, it’s a signature blend of Sobral’s blues-steeped guitar work, soulful vocals, and timeless songwriting.
For Nelson, the song is indeed sacred, and the means by which it is delivered transcends genre. Though clearly inspired by roots songwriting giants such as Hank Williams and Gram Parsons, Nelson’s work deserves a wider scope, a wider breadth, and a wider reach. Through the lens of soul, blues, and rock and roll, his songwriting, paired with his incomparable voice and monster guitar playing, is fit for any stage, any night of the week, any audience, anywhere.
Paying his dues by sharing stages with the legendary Jeff Healey, along with other Canadian rock mainstays David Wilcox and The Trews, Nelson developed his knuckles-to-the-dirt, workhorse spirit has seen him tour and play relentlessly across Canada and the U.S. “You need to do those things as a musician to experience life,” he says. “Even if you write from that perspective, you can tell if someone’s done it or not.”
