Press release –
TORONTO – East Coast musical icon and masterful storyteller Lennie Gallant releases a new deluxe version of his first English-language album in seven years. Shelter From the Storms is Gallant’s 16th album to date, and the new 14 track deluxe version includes three new songs available to the public digitally, out on all major platforms on August 22nd. For more information please visit any of the artist links below and at his website.
A percolating slice of Americana, “Please Wait” offers a fervent prayer to a loved one, as the singer rushes home along the highway so that both of them can rescue themselves, together, from the damages of the past. “It’s about a desperate journey through day and night to confront a dark episode that has never been resolved. Some stories refuse to stay buried and must be dealt with head on before those involved can ever find peace, says Gallant”
The touching folk song “Uncle Harold” is a captivating tale of a full life lived, not unlike the song “The Dutchman,” a folk classic written by Michael Peter Smith. “Uncle Harold” tells the heartrending story about Gallant’s Uncle Harold and Aunt Emma. It’s a fascinating tale of how a former sailor became a bird healer, nursing hundreds of injured ones to health, allowing them to ride free on the breeze again. Quite the noble calling. “The last scene is rather fantastic, but it’s true,” says Gallant.
“Trust,” a co-write Chris Ledrew, is a folk song that addresses that very thing, sometimes looking a little thin, but perhaps able to be built up again. Gallant adds, “Trust is the elusive and essential element that holds relationships together or allows them to fall apart.” It includes a lovely, brief harmonica solo.

MORE ABOUT LENNIE GALLANT
Lennie Gallant, from Rustico, PEI, an acclaimed East Coast singer-songwriter with 16 albums and numerous awards, returns this June with Shelter From the Storms, his first English album in seven years. The album reflects on the turbulent times we live in, while celebrating the human ability to navigate through hardship with community, love, and laughter.
Gallant’s iconic song “Peter’s Dream” has been inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was voted one of the Top Ten East Coast Songs of all Time in a CBC poll. One of his albums even traveled aboard the International Space Station, orbiting the Earth 248 times – which Gallant jokes finally gave him “high rotation worldwide!” He’s shared the stage with symphony orchestras and numerous artists, including Jimmy Buffett, who featured him as a guest vocalist and co-writer on his final album. He’s earned 19 East Coast Music Awards, including the ECMA Entertainer of the Year several times over. In 2022, he received The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for his valuable contribution to the province of Nova Scotia during his time spent there.
Gallant also performs with his partner, Patricia Richard, on the album, and as the Francophone duo Sirène et Matelot, (The Siren and the Sailor). A celebrated humanitarian and storyteller, Gallant was appointed to the Order of Canada, where he was honoured for songs described as “true slices of life, delivered with a poet’s flair, and a rugged emotional sensibility.”
