Press release –
PEI-born and based singer-songwriter and guitarist Logan Richard celebrates the one-year anniversary of his award-winning album Character Traits with the announcement of Character Traits Deluxe, arriving May 22 via Outside Music.
Produced by David Myles and Joshua Van Tassel, the album marked a confident step forward for Richard, exploring every corner of his artistry—from slick pop and spacey R&B to soul-soaked folk.
Today, alongside the deluxe announcement, Richard shares a brand new single, “Yet to Let Me Down.” “I wrote this song with my friend Isabella Samson,” he explains. “I was a big fan of hers, and saw she was coming to PEI, so I reached out to see if she’d be interested in writing together. We went out to the national park in Cavendish, sat by the trees, and wrote the song in a few hours. Bunnies were frolicking by, it was a scorching hot summer day, and we even got Cows ice cream when we finished. It was a picture-perfect summer day. The song was recorded live off the floor in Charlottetown a few months later, and it’s been sitting on my hard drive ever since. I am so excited it’s finally seeing the light of day.” The recording features members of the PEI rock trio Absolute Losers.
For the video, Richard drew inspiration from the stripped-back, in-room performances of Theo Katzman.“I loved the style of his videos—everyone playing together in the same room, captured simply,” says Richard. “I wanted to try that approach. My dear friend Ben MacDonald came into the studio and filmed it on an iPhone.”
Nearly a year after its initial release, Character Traits Deluxe offers a deeper look at the album, reframing key moments while introducing new ones. “The Grass is Blue” trades its restlessness for a calmer, more lived-in take, anchored by a rhythm section featuring Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas), Chris Kirby, and Joshua Van Tassel. “Junk Drawer” shifts from a bright, piano-led heartbreak to a more intimate acoustic folk rendering. The previously unreleased “Yet to Let Me Down,” recorded shortly before the original sessions, joins the tracklist, while “Up From Here” is fully re-recorded as a poignant duet with Rose Cousins.
Character Traits earned Logan Richard an Amazon Music Billboard at Sankofa Square (formerly Yonge-Dundas) in Toronto, along with playlist support from Apple Music (New in Singer-Songwriter, Acoustic Chill, Morning Coffee, Today’s Acoustic, Made In Canada) and Spotify (Folk & Friends). The album was also featured across CBC programs nationwide, Indie 88’s Weekend Cafe, garnered him an interview on etalk, and countless other outlets.

What’s The Story about Logan Richard?
Logan Richard is one of music’s rarest creatures—a compelling and diverse songwriter who also shreds. The PEI-born-and-based artist has been sharpening both skills since he first picked up the guitar as a pre-teen, building a reputation as a deft, genre-fluid songsmith and peerless hired gun for some of Canada’s most exciting musicians. But his latest full-length, Character Traits, collects the undeniable evidence of Richard’s talents under his own name as he navigates slick pop, spacey R&B, and soulful folk. As the thesis song and title track attests, he’s a 21st-century renaissance man in both skill and style.
Influenced by his axe-slinging brother, artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan and John Mayer, his dad’s record collection, and his Acadian mom’s fiddle-playing family, Richard hit the stage at just 12 years old, cutting his teeth playing gigs around the island with a blues group filled out by his fellow young peers. He’s built his career as both a solo artist and in-demand live and session player, racking up experience over more than a decade and playing everywhere from dim blues dives to historical soft-seaters. All the committed hours have refined his work with nuances in technique and composition that allow him to express his many multitudes—a predilection that powers and deepens his new record, and reveals the wide scope of Richard’s artistry.
Following the release of Character Traits in spring 2025, Richard’s momentum became hard to ignore. He logged first-time performances in new markets across Canada, from Calgary to Montreal, highlighted by a set at the Montreal International Jazz Festival opening for Ben Harper. His songs continued their onscreen run too, with Hallmark’s Mistletoe Murders joining placements like Ginny & Georgia and Hudson & Rex. Radio followed suit: “The Grass is Blue” cracked the Top 10 on CBC’s Top 20, while airplay also pushed outward, including notable rotation in Germany. The album’s reach showed up in press as well, with features from Rolling Stone Germany and the UK’s At The Barrier, while closer to home, Character Traits collected more than half a dozen regional awards—proof that the wider world is catching up to what players have known for years: Logan Richard is the real deal.
This summer, Richard will take Character Traits on the road with festival appearances including Winnipeg Folk Festival and Hillside Festival in Guelph. Full tour dates and details can be found below and at www.loganrichard.com.
