New Music From Believe / Pagan Folk Records – FAUN – “Hex”

Faun.

Press release –

FAUN return with their twelfth studio album HEX — a deeply researched and richly layered exploration of witches, wise women, and pagan mythologies from across Europe and beyond. The title draws from the German “Hexe” (witch) and the Old High German Hagazussa, meaning “one who walks between worlds.”

Following the success of Pagan, which debuted at #3 on the German charts, HEX blends medieval instruments like hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, harp, and lute with modern beats, synths, and vocals to conjure a mystical, genre-defying soundscape. Songs draw from Celtic, Norse, Anglo-Saxon, and Turkish traditions: from the Arthurian tale of Nimue (featuring Chelsea Wolfe) to the Viking ritual of Blot, the ancient English spell Ylfa Spere, and Umay, a Crimean-Tatar folk song reimagined with Turkish singer Fatma Turgut.

HEX features collaborations with musicians from Sweden and Turkey, as well as a striking cover of Nick Drake’s Black Eyed Dog. As always, FAUN‘s lyrics are rooted in historical texts and guided by frontman Oliver Satyr’s background in medieval philology.

Released on FAUN’s Pagan Folk Records and distributed by Believe, HEX marks a new era for the band under the management of AISA (Wardruna, Enslaved) and booking by Cobra Agency (Slipknot, Sabaton), building on a legacy that includes platinum and gold-certified albums, three ECHO nominations, and over 1,000 performances worldwide.
