Subway to Sally was founded in Potsdam, Germany in the early 1990s. Their music has clear folk, medieval and metal influences and they enjoy a large gothic following who have rightly labeled the band kings of medieval metal. Having released 12 studio albums, a number of live albums and live DVDs, Subway to Sally are a well established outfit, although their fame is mainly restricted to German-speaking countries.
I am being perfectly honest when I say I was not aware of the band before tonight and I wasn’t really sure what to expect. The band’s lyrics are entirely in German. However, I didn’t let that put me off, I was in Germany after all. I arrived at the sold out venue to find an excited and extremely mixed crowd. Subway to Sally are big business and a spectacular light show gave me one of the most entertaining gigs I have photographed in quite a while.
Thank you to Sandra Eichner at www.rosenheim-rocks.de for arranging access. Hameln and I must have had a positive effect, I have been asked to photograph a spin off concert in October when lead singer Eric Fish returns here in October.
