Press release –

The Skies Turn Black marks a creative turning point for Vreid, shaped by reflection, renewal, and renewed intensity. The title track, written by bassist Jarle Kvåle as a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne and the music that formed him, anchors the album’s dark, atmospheric core, while songs like Echoes of Life reconnect with the band’s early melancholic spirit. Throughout the record, past and present collide, from revived 90s thrash influences to bold departures like Loving the Dead, featuring Agnete Kjølsrud of Djerv.

The album also carries deeply personal full-circle moments, including the cinematic Kraken, written for a film produced by the band’s first music teacher. After a period of uncertainty that nearly halted the band entirely, that pause became the catalyst for their most focused and aggressive material to date. Tracks like Smile of Hate and Chaos were rebuilt into some of the fastest and heaviest songs Vreid have ever recorded, while closer The Earth Rumbles serves as a definitive statement of who they are now.

Produced by Anders Nordengen with artwork by Kim Holm, The Skies Turn Black is a point of pride for the band and a reaffirmation of their creative fire. The album will be released on March 6, 2026.
