On Sept. 10, award-winning folk artist Mia Kelly releases her new single, “Sea to the Moon,” featuring UK singer-songwriter Blair Dunlop. Produced by Connor Seidel (Charlotte Cardin, Half Moon Run, Leif Vollebekk), the song is a gut-wrenching folk-pop ballad about unrequited love. The track was co-written with Blair during their recent tour and showcases Mia’s signature lyrical intimacy and emotional depth.
What began as a morning singalong of Gillian Welch’s “Look at Miss Ohio” quickly spilled into the line, “Between you & me & the dogs in the room,” a confession so intimate it begged to be written. “This song feels to me like a conversation,” Mia explains. “All the things you’d say when telling someone you’ve been close to for years that you’re in love with them, knowing those feelings aren’t reciprocated.”
Joining Connor at his studio, The Treehouse, just north of Montréal, “Sea to the Moon” thrives in its simplicity. “Working with Connor was a dream in every way,” Mia shares. “We knew we wanted it to be relatively simple production-wise and that the hook would take us most of the way, but we found a few gems that make it come alive.” Featuring Vincent Ott’s sweeping string arrangement, Olivier Fairfield’s subtle percussion, and Dunlop’s warm harmonies, the track maintains a raw honesty that is timeless, yearning, and unforgettable.
Later this month, Mia and Blair will reunite for a run of dates in Western Canada, Ontario and Québec beginning September 24. Then Mia will return to the UK at the end of October to support John Smith.
