Press release –

Singer-songwriter Jenn Grant shares “Crazy,” the latest single from her forthcoming album Queen of the Strait, set for release on March 6. “It’s been difficult to try and write about this one, because the poetic sense and abstractness in nature is where I feel it’s meant to live in the song space,” shares Grant. “But ultimately, when I try to break it down in my own head, I think it’s about seeing yourself and loving yourself through your own eyes instead of someone else’s.” “Crazy” follows the album’s lead single, ‘Jim Cuddy Dress’ —a beautiful tribute to her late mother.

The new record marks Grant’s most personal work to date — a deeply cinematic exploration of love, loss, and transformation. To celebrate the album, Grant has created a groundbreaking live tour, Cradled by the Waves – The Live Experience, which will take place across Canada, beginning in Charlottetown, PE, on March 5thThis tour will transform the album into a stunning multimedia performance blending music, film, theatre, and dance.

What’s The Story about Queen of the Strait LP?

Jenn Grant’s forthcoming album, Queen of the Strait, is her most personal work yet. Co-produced with Joshua Van Tassel (Bahamas, Christine Bougie, Doug Paisley) and longtime collaborator Daniel Ledwell, it is a modern-day classic of country and Americana, elevated by Jenn’s unmistakable pop-infused charm.

“This album is an autobiographical tale made from some of the most impactful stories of my life. Lyrically I feel it’s my most direct and most poetic work to date,” shares Grant. “Many of these songs and stories encapsulate the journeys I shared with my brother, travelling between our two parents after a tumultuous separation. Where we would witness our mother build a new life; from heartbreak to yielding a sense of adventure and magic in the years that followed. It is about life and death, the importance of grieving well, childhood, parenthood, love, abuse and formation. It’s a tribute to my ancestors and a reflection that love is eternal, and it is everything.”

The title draws its name from the MV Abegweit passenger ferry – Abegweit being an anglicized version of the Mi’kmaw word Epekwitk, meaning “cradled by the waves” – which carried Jenn and her brother as children between two separated parents after a tumultuous separation. That crossing becomes both a literal and metaphorical passage in her work, weaving together the Canadian landscapes of her childhood and universal stories into a profound reflection of the human condition.

Recorded live off the floor at her home studio in Lake Echo, NS — without headphones and over just four days — the result is a collection that feels alive, raw, and spiritually grounded in the landscape that has long inspired her songwriting.

What’s The Story about Cradled by the Waves – The Live Experience?

Queen of the Strait draws from Jenn Grant’s childhood in Prince Edward Island and the timeless pull of the Atlantic. The live experience reimagines those songs in motion — a moving meditation on grief, transformation, and the beauty of beginning again.

Each show is an immersive, cinematic experience featuring a live band, curated film sequences, and interpretive movement. Together, these elements create a dreamlike landscape where the songs flow seamlessly into one another.

Co-created with a celebrated team of collaborators, including producers Daniel Ledwell and Joshua Van Tassel, Irish director Julie Kelleher, projectionist Jose Garcia-Lozano, cinematographer Daniel Grant, lighting designer Rebecca Picherack and recently added long time friend, poet and songwriter Tanya Davis as movement artist. Cradled by the Waves invites audiences to reflect on love, loss, and the fragility of life through a communal and deeply emotional lens.

Cradled by the Waves will tour select Canadian cities in 2026. Step through the Portal and be part of a shared moment that blurs the line between audience and artist — a living, breathing work of art that changes with every performance.

Co-produced by Jenn Grant, Blue Grace Music, and the National Arts Centre’s National Creation Fund.

What’s The Story about Jenn Grant?

Jenn Grant is a three-time Juno-nominated singer, songwriter, and internationally acclaimed recording artist whose music has been described as “the aural equivalent of a warm embrace” (Pop Matters), “majestic vocals” (Consequence of Sound), and “dreamy, harp-and-woodwinds folk, the work of a painter born in paradise” (The Age, AU). With eight studio albums to date, she has become one of Canada’s most distinctive voices, earning East Coast Music Awards, a Polaris Prize long-listing, and widespread recognition for her ethereal sound and evocative storytelling.

Grant’s 2023 collaborative project, Champagne Problems, brought together 13 musicians from across Canada, including Bahamas, Dan Mangan, Basia Bulat, and Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene). The record, born out of pandemic-era vulnerability and creative risk, earned her the 2024 East Coast Music Award for Songwriter of the Year and song of the year for ‘Judy’ her collaboration with dear friend and bandmate, Kim Harris.

Across her career, Grant has collected dozens of accolades, including multiple ECMA and Music Nova Scotia awards, the Canadian Folk Music Award for Solo Artist of the Year, and recognition from CBC Music as Singer-Songwriter of the Year. Her voice – simultaneously intimate and expansive – has carried her from small folk clubs to international festival stages, with songs that resonate across borders while remaining deeply rooted in place.

With Queen of the Strait, Grant affirms her place as one of Canada’s most compelling storytellers – an artist whose songs feel both timeless and urgently present, carrying us across waters both real and imagined.
