“Legacy” marks a powerful new single from Shub (formerly known as DJ Shub), following his acclaimed release of Heritage (Part One). The track brings together three powerful and distinct voices: Shub, the pioneering Indigenous electronic artist and creator of powwow step; DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia, whose hard, uncompromising Southern rap delivery anchors the song; and Nova Rx, whose soaring, melodic chorus and reflective verses introduce an emotional counterbalance.
Sonically, “Legacy” thrives on contrast and coexistence. DJ Paul’s raw intensity collides with Nova Rx’s elevated, almost angelic vocal presence, all set against Shub’s signature heavy-hitting production layered with powwow vocal samples. Rather than clashing, these elements create a dynamic tension, one that mirrors the song’s core themes of lineage, identity, and evolution.
Lyrically, “Legacy” explores the push and pull of growth and inheritance. Nova Rx’s verses reflect on falling and rising, breaking frames, resisting limitation, and choosing one’s own path while still acknowledging the weight of what came before. Legacy, here, is not only what is passed down, but what is actively built, shaped through resilience, self-reflection, and intention.

“Legacy came together in a way that still blows my mind,” Shub shares. “We were talking about collaborators, and someone threw out DJ Paul… my jaw literally hit the floor. Three 6 Mafia are legendary, so it just felt right for a song about lineage and impact. Then Nova Rx came in, and the chemistry between all of us was unreal. Different worlds, same energy, all meeting in one track.”
For DJ Paul, the connection was immediate. “What drew me to this track was the chill feel-good vibes at the beginning, and then the 0 to 100 rush that comes once the beat dropped… Once I heard that I was sold. Mafia!”
Nova Rx describes “Legacy” as a meditation on transformation and connection. “‘Legacy,’ to me, is what starts to form when you begin to understand and use the connections between past & present, between nature & self, to transform your existence to a higher state,” he explains. “That’s what I tried to illustrate in my contribution. Big ups to Shub for pulling together such vast talent and being able to coordinate collaboration on such a unique song, pushing boundaries to illustrate the dance between the natural rhythm of the earth & body, and the existentiality of the mind & soul.”
The accompanying visuals extend this dialogue through movement and form. Two contrasting dancers embody the song’s core energies: a hip-hop b-boy dancer representing DJ Paul’s grounded intensity, and an Indigenous fancy shawl/contemporary dancer reflecting Nova Rx’s fluidity, spirit, and ascent. Together, they visually interpret the conversation between past and future, struggle and transcendence.
With “Legacy”, Shub continues to expand the cultural and sonic boundaries of his work, honouring lineage while forging a bold new path forward.
