Just days after taking home the JUNO Award for Rap Single of the Year alongside Canadian music icons Jully Black and Saukrates, globally celebrated rapper and singer TOBi drops his latest project, For Good Measure. Released today via ADA Canada, the dynamic seven-song EP features live, jazz-driven reinterpretations of standout tracks from TOBi’s expansive catalog. The EP is led by standout track “City Blues,” which includes a live visual.
The concept for For Good Measure took shape organically last year when TOBi and his producer, Nick Ferraro, were in Toronto. What began as a studio exercise to reimagine TOBi’s 2022 release “Hoodwinked” as if it were performed by a jazz quartet quickly evolved into a full-scale live recording.
Captured over just two days in September at Toronto’s renowned Dreamhouse Studios, TOBi, Ferraro, and musicians Jeremiah, Noam, and Julian tracked the entire project live off the floor. The result is a vibrant, deeply musical showcase of TOBi’s raw vocal talent and artistic versatility.
The release of For Good Measure caps off a triumphant week for the Nigerian-born, Brampton-raised artist. Last weekend, TOBi secured his fifth career JUNO Award. The win for Rap Single of the Year, shared with Jully Black and Saukrates, along with his nomination for Rap Album/EP of the Year highlights a historic run of critical acclaim and industry recognition.
ABOUT TOBi
TOBi is a 5-time JUNO winning (9x nominee) rapper and singer, born in Nigeria and moving to Canada as a child. He quickly found an outlet in writing and performing music, developing a sound that is deeply introspective and emotionally raw. TOBi has received critical acclaim from the likes of Billboard, Rolling Stone, COLORS, PAPER, and Pitchfork.
His studio album PANIC was released in 2023 to high praise—including a sweep of the rap categories (Best Rap Album and Best Rap Single for “Someone I Knew”) at the 2024 JUNO Awards. On top of recording and performing, TOBi is a co-founder of UNPACK, a series of discussions focused on mental wellness in the creative community.
