Press release –
Today, Dunsun, the side project of Belfast-born singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Gareth Dunlop, returns with a new single, “When We’re Together,” arriving April 22 in conjunction with its placement in Disneynature’s upcoming feature film Orangutan, premiering the same day on Disney+.
Timed to Earth Day, Orangutan follows an inquisitive young orangutan named Indah as she learns to navigate life in the rainforest canopy of Southeast Asia. Narrated by Josh Gad and directed by Mark Linfield and Vanessa Berlowitz, the film offers an intimate look at one of the world’s most intelligent and endangered species, while supporting conservation efforts through the Disney Conservation Fund.
With “When We’re Together,” Dunsun delivers a warm, understated companion to the film’s emotional core. Rooted in soulful vocals and restrained, acoustic-driven arrangements, the song reflects on connection, care, and the quiet bonds that shape both human and natural worlds.
Dunsun’s first releases serve as another outlet for Dunlop’s emotional storytelling and lyric-forward compositions that allow each song to stand on its own. The project debuted with “When The Devil Gets His Way,” co-written with Johnny Reid and featured in Marshals, the Yellowstone spin-off, introducing Dunsun as a raw, intimate counterpoint to the broader scope of Dunlop’s solo work. Dunsun’s track “Wild and Free” has been featured in both Tulsa King and Marshals.
Beyond his own recordings, Dunlop’s work spans genres and formats. As a producer and songwriter, he has collaborated with a wide range of artists, from producing Foy Vance’s Signs of Life to writing songs recorded by artists ranging from T.I. to Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. His music has been featured extensively across film, television, and advertising, with placements in Suits, Nashville, Lucifer, Found, Fire Country, House, and Safe Haven, as well as campaigns for brands including Disney, Subaru, and Chevrolet.
As a touring artist, Dunlop has shared stages with Bonnie Raitt, Snow Patrol, Van Morrison, and Stereophonics, among others. He continues to perform both solo and with his band, and is currently at work on new music to release in 2026.
