“Today I’m sharing ‘Shadow Child (ft Frazey Ford),’ the title track and 2nd single from my upcoming album, out May 8th (Mothers Day weekend!). The song is one of my favourites on the record, inspired in part by the liminal world glimpsed through fetal ultrasound imagery. “I made the Shadow Child video using one of my own stop motion animations, filmed on super 8 years ago and half forgotten. It was originally shot ‘backwards’ so that, when played in reverse, it would show a creature emerging from a formless blob. To my amazement, the unedited film fit the song and lyrics oddly perfectly. So it felt like an appropriate theme, as well as a really wild collaboration with my much younger self. And a celebration of the oddness of creation — both as an artist and, now, as a mother.”
