Press release –
Alternative Hip-Hop artist Skip Waiters returns today with Insecure, a cinematic exploration of modern romance told through the eyes of his alter ego, Mr. Piks. The EP follows the release of singles “shotGUN” and “Changes,” and is available now on all streaming platforms via ADA, led by the focus track “just busiNESS,” a collaboration with Kalisway that anchors the project’s genre-bending sound.
The lead single, “just busiNESS,” featuring Kalisway, exemplifies the EP’s sonic direction. It merges Waiters’ dynamic flow with a melodic, textured backdrop that brings the narrative to center stage. The track serves as a pivotal chapter in the EP’s storyline, capturing the vulnerability required to navigate a new connection while battling internal doubt.
The project is also a distinct showcase of Canadian talent. Alongside the lead single featuring Kalisway, the EP includes guest appearances by Doressa and O’Sound. The project’s genre-blending soundscape was crafted by producers Lord Quest, Genesis, Freeza Chin, and Midas, with mixing and mastering by Freeza Chin.
Building on the momentum of his 2024 album The Human Experience and the critical acclaim surrounding his debut Personal Stereo, Insecure represents the evolution of Waiters’ artistry. While previous projects explored broad societal themes and identity, this EP turns the lens inward, bringing the listener into a more intimate narrative. Through the character of Mr. Piks, the project functions as a linear story, guiding listeners through the tension between self-love, agape love, and lust. The production mirrors this emotional arc, blending the structural unpredictability of alternative R&B with the lyrical precision that has defined Waiters’ catalog.
