Next week’s show will be the Canadian Music Hall of Famers’ sixth appearance at Artpark.

Opening the show will be Canadian blues rocker Colin James who will be making his Artpark debut. James has been putting out music and performing all over the world since 1988. Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, James got his break opening for Stevie Ray Vaughan in Regina in 1984 when the scheduled opening act didn’t show. He only had a few hours’ notice to put together a set of blues standards with members from the local Regina band “Flying Colours”.

Vaughan invited Colin to perform with him during the encore, and then join his tour as a permanent opening act. He and his band The Hoodoo Men opened for Vaughan for several tour dates in the United States. According to legend, Vaughan himself suggested the stage name “Colin James”, because when announced over arena P.A. systems, “Munn” sounded like “Mud” (his full name is Colin James Munn).

The six-time Juno Award winner and 17-time Maple Blues Awards winner has 15 studio albums under his belt, the latest being Blue Highways (2016). Such hits include Just Came Back, Sudden Stop, Five long Years, Voodoo Thing, Why’d You Lie, Chicks and Cars and the Third World War and many more.

Over the years James has recorded with such artists as Richard Marx, Long John Baldry, The Chieftains and many others.
