Hall of Famers The O’Jays bring “The Last Word Tour” to Artpark June 18 with guests Average White Band; Tickets still available

If you want to see music legends then don’t miss next week’s show at Artpark in Lewiston, NY! Tuesdays In the Park continues June 18 with Hall of Fame R&B group The O’Jays. This show will be the trio’s only area appearance on their current U.S. tour.

The band’s roots goes back to 1958 when they first started out as The Mascots, and then The Triumphs in Canton, OH. But in 1963, they took the name “The O’Jays”, in tribute to Cleveland radio disc jockey Eddie O’Jay.

Over the years, The O’Jays released several albums and had a number of singles, many of which were top 20 on either the United States Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart or the United Kingdom’s UK Singles Chart. Such hits include Back Stabbers, Love Train, Put Your Hands Together, For the Love of Money, I Love Music, Livin’ For the Weekend and Use ta Be My Girl.

The O’Jays were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004, and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. Earlier this year they released their final studio album, The Last Word on April 19.

The O’Jays features original members Eddie Levert and Walter Williams along with long time member Eric Nolan Grant.

Opening the show will be Average White Band (AWB) – a Scottish funk and R&B band that began in 1972 and had a series of soul and disco hits between 1974 and 1980. They are best known for their million-selling instrumental track Pick Up the Pieces and their albums AWB and Cut the Cake.

They have influenced many artists over the years and have been sampled by various musicians including the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, TLC, The Beatnuts, Too Short, Ice Cube, Eric B. & Rakim, Nas, and A Tribe Called Quest, Christina Milian, as well as Arrested Development – making them the 15th most sampled act in history.

The current line-up features original members Alan Gorrie and Onnie McIntyre along with Fred Vigdor, Cliff Lyons, Rocky Bryant, Brent Carter and Rob Aries.
