Rock and Roll has a home again in the eastern Kentucky town of Whitesburg. Look it up, yes it’s that tiny speck on a Kentucky map (map!? What’s that? Okay, use that app on your phone) down near the Virginia border. That tiny speck has played host to a who’s who of rock and roll heavyweights (Ace Frehley, Glenn Hughes, Whitford / St Holmes, Damon Johnson, Rival Sons, LA Guns, Rich Robinson, Marc Ford, Colin Hay, Richie Kotzen and the list goes on). Along with those heavyweights have been a host of newer bands.

This year alone has seen The Mystery Lights, Soraia, Jason Kane and The Jive, and tonight’s band The Black Moods make a stop in Whitesburg.

The Black Moods have been keeping the road hot this year! They’ve been out on the road with The Gin Blossoms (about to go back out with them), Whitesnake, and Them Evils. Then you sprinkle in some solo shows like tonight and you have a very busy band! That hard work has paid off with a top 25 song on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart with their latest release Bad News. Sitting at 24 on this weeks chart Bad News was on tonight’s incredible setlist along with Without a Warning, Right Now Anywhere, another charting single Bella Donna and two absolutely killer covers.

The first of those killer covers was Led Zeppelin’s Thank You that’s included on the album Dazed & Confused – A Stoned-Out Salute To Led Zeppelin. While not trying to be a clone of the rock masters, Josh, Chicco and Jordan put their own touches on Thank You and holy shit, is it a fitting tribute! The other equally killer cover was Never Been Any Reason by Head East. The guys made this one their own as well! Even better than their covers were the original songs they performed tonight. As I said earlier the setlist was incredible!

The highlight for me among a show full of highlights was Bella Donna and just the sheer abundant energy they played the entire show with. They didn’t care that they were playing a small venue in eastern Kentucky, watching them perform they could have been on the main stage at any big summer festival!

The Black Moods have a lot of touring left in them this year, get out and support them!

As always, get out and support your local bands and venues, without that local support The Black Moods wouldn’t have been in Whitesburg, Kentucky. For that matter, any nationally touring band that has played in Whitesburg wouldn’t have made it here without local support first! Rock and Roll may be dead in some places but it’s alive and well in Whitesburg.
